I don’t take time to update this blog. It’s not at the top of my priority list. In fact, it may not even be ON the list at all.
So I don’t have a whole lot to say here today. What I can say is that I’ve been intrigued by the idea of starting an event rental company, offering tents, tables, chairs, lecterns, wedding arches, bars etc. for rent for local individuals and companies.
Some bonuses:
- I own a truck and a trailer, so I can transport things myself
- I have a 1200ft2 building behind my house to store equipment
- I have some spare seed funding available
- I love money and would really like a somewhat passive job that earned me a little more scratch.
Of course, there are always Cons too:
- I’ve never run a business like this so there will be learning curves etc.
- It’s a risk financially (albeit a small one to start)
- I’m horrible at marketing, so how would I even get events lined up?
I’m going to spend the next few days coming up with a business plan and putting some things in place. I tend to over-analyze these type of things and try to get stuff all perfect before I start. This frequently derails my intentions. In my mind, if things aren’t perfect, they won’t work.
I am going to attempt to just jump into this project and get it working. As troubles/opportunities arise, I’ll deal with them then.
Absolute worst-case, nobody hires me to provide event rental stuff. If this transpires, I can simply sell my inventory (perhaps at a small loss) and walk away. I’ll head back out into the workshop and build some more things out of wood. (I really love doing that too)
What do you think?
