Some progress

So my attempts at woodworking are coming along nicely.

I have completed my first project. I’m calling it a Shoji Lamp. It’s a small wooden lamp that utilizes a battery powered tea light as its source of illumination. It stands around 11.5″ (or ~345mm) tall, is made of ash and maple and shoji paper. It’s held together with glue and friction, and in my opinion, it’s not bad for a first project:

I’m working on Kumiko panels now. They’re pretty slick, but require a great deal of patience to create as they consist of many many small pieces of wood, hand cut and hand beveled to fit together into tight patterns. I’ve already cut myself a few times with my super sharp chisels in the process of making my first Asa-no-ha panel. I’ll get there.
