Moving forward, maybe?

So I attended a Real Estate investor group meeting a couple weeks ago. I came across it while browsing BiggerPockets forums. It was in Fayetteville (at the IHOP). I met several interesting folks there. All of them were investors. Some were Real Estate Agents, one guy was a licensed contractor (he was tired of trying to get reliable contractors to work on his investments, so he decided to do it himself). Everyone there was older than me. Most had several properties to their names (some had dozens, if not 50 or 60+).

I’ll attend again. The meetings happen once a month. I feel like there’s lots to learn from these folks. Since most of these folks are a little older, I’m probably the most tech-savvy person in the bunch. I feel like I could contribute my tech skills in exchange for their experience and advice. Excited to see where it goes.

I drove out to Marietta to get my Real Estate license this past week. Since I was arrested once (in my early 20’s) I have a blemish on my background check. Anyone with any marks on their criminal background check must have their case investigated and cleared by the GA Real Estate Commission before they can get their license. I’m not sure what needs to happen, but I took care of my paperwork and mailed it in. We’ll see how long it takes to get cleared.

As far as brokerages go, I’m leaning towards EXP. They’re an online brokerage with a heavy focus on recruiting more agents. I’m not interested in that crap, but I am interested in part-timing. The online-ness of the whole situation appeals to me. They’ll supposedly pair me up with a mentor while I get my sea-legs. Good times!
